GSPH in Costa Rica: Health, Society and Human Behavior
(PH 664 Sec 2: Rural Border Health in Costa Rica)

TRAVEL DATES 
March 24 – 31, 2018

COURSE DATES 
The travel portion is embedded into the Spring 2018 Semester course at SDSU. Class will be held on the SDSU campus before and after travel for discussion and review. The location and time will be sent to students accepted into the program.

COST:  $1,560 (see below)

PROGRAM SUMMARY
The course will involve  classes at SDSU and field visits, seminars, and workshops in Costa Rica. Students will work with faculty from SDSU-UCSD’s Joint Doctoral Program in Global Health (JDP-GH) as well as the Interamerican Center for Global Healthin Costa Rica (Centro Interamericano para la Salud Global: CISG). Field site visits include primary care clinics, rural hospitals, border health offices, and NGOs. The topic área of discussions will be on migrant andborder health in rural contexts. The course is available for SDSU master’s and doctoral students in relevant fields of study.

  • SDSU Foreign Travel Insurance Plan: $60
  • Tuition: matriculated SDSU students pay regular semester fees to enroll in the class
 Payment Schedule
  • Program fee: January 12, 2018 (Cash or check paid to SDSU Cashier; payment voucher and instructions will be sent upon acceptance into the program)
  • Insurance: February 2018 (billed through SDSU student account)

Refund Policy
Program Fee Refund: non-refundable after January 12, 2018           
Withdrawals prior to January 12 are effective on the date that the SDSU Office of International Programs receives written notification from you, the student. Email notification is acceptable: oip@mail.sdsu.edu
Course refund subject to SDSU Add/Drop Deadline and applicable policies.
 
VISA AND PASSPORT INFORMATION
A visa not required for citizens of United States for a stay up to 90 days.
Participants will need a passport valid for 6 months past the entry date.

PREREQUISITES AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 
  • Open to graduate students
  • Permission of the instructor is required (Dr. Reed)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Minimum age to participate is 18
All participants must complete BOTH a mandatory online pre-departure orientation as well as a program-specific orientation(s) with their faculty leader(s) prior to departure. Details about both will be sent after acceptance into the program.
 
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
This online application must be completed by December 18, 2017
Students must be accepted into the program before adding the class to their schedule.
