The course is the integration of business administration principles and concepts for strategy design, implementation and control in domestic, international, and global markets.
During this program in Shangahai, you will study competitive positioning for Chinese companies in their various sectors. Special emphasis will be on industries that are important to local economies and China as a whole. Industry analysis may include logistic services; auto industry; hospitality and tourism; technology sector and clothing manufacturers.
Since BA 405 is a "capstone" course in the curriculum; knowledge gained in previous business courses, particularly marketing, economics, decision science, and organizational behavior, will be applied to the problems faced by the general managers. Students must be available to complete in-person/online work before the dates abroad.
All participants are required to register for the following SDSU course, offered through the College of Extended Studies (CES):
* Required Prerequisites: MGT/BA 350, BA 300, FIN/BA 323, MIS 301/302 or BA 360, MKTG/BA 370 and BA 310 (if you started SDSU in 2015 or later). These need to be complete by the end of spring semester 2018.

- BA 405: International Business Strategy & Integration (3 units)*
specializes in teaching Global Marketing and Consumer Marketing Strategy for San Diego State University since 1988. For the past eleven years, she has been teaching two mega-sections, 235-250 students, of Principles of Marketing per semester. In these classes, using technology, Dr. Olson's Principles Course has been identified by the CSU (California State University) as a proven course to reduce bottlenecks the and improve student success. In that task, the course is being modified and adapted by other CSU schools in their respective colleges of business.
Olson teaches internationally in the People's Republic of China, Taiwan, South America, France, in Germany and other European sites for Siemens Global Marketing Program and for the Helsinki School of Economics. Olson was a principle researcher on a grant funded jointly by the US-Israel Science and Technology Foundation to develop markets and partnerships for Israeli technologies in the United States and globally. Summer, 2010, Olson was a professor teaching on-board the MV Explorer, the University of Virginia's Semester-at-Sea campus for the summer teaching students Global Marketing and Consumer Behavior in countries of the Mediterranean.
Since 1992, Olson has been visiting China at least three times annually to teach and to conduct research on consumer markets in several cities and provinces across the People's Republic of China. This experience has led to a research stream analyzing Chinese consumers and appropriate marketing strategies, especially understanding the impact of the "Little Emperors" on the buying behavior of Chinese families. In 1999-2000 was spent as a Fulbright Scholar teaching at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and living as a Chinese consumer. Additionally, her work involves the application of cross-cultural analytic tools to understanding the similarities and differences between the Western and the Chinese market.
Beginning in Summer, 2009, Olson has been a principal in Faculty-led Study-abroad SDSU classes to China through the Confucius Institute for a two-week in-country class and company visits.

PREREQUISITES AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Open to all approved upper division business majors or minors in the College of Business Administration. For all other students, please email Professor Gary Grudnitski, Director of Undergraduate Programs, with your name, red id and reason for choosing the program.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
- SDSU students cannot be on academic probation (less than 2.0 GPA) or disciplinary probation (expulsion, judicial, or suspension) at the time of application and/or at the time of course registration. The standard CES refund policy for study abroad applies if you are found to be on probation after applying to the program.
- Minimum age to participate is 18
- After applying and being accepted into the program, all participants must complete BOTH a mandatory pre-departure orientation sponsored by the College of Extended Studies (CES) as well as a program-specific orientation(s) with their faculty leader(s) prior to departure. Details about both will be sent after acceptance into the program.
