Murdoch University is a public university based in Perth, Western Australia. Ranked within the top 301-350 universities worldwide, it is one of the two universities in Western Australia to be listed in the top 400. These are estimated dates that may include a required welcome orientation the week before classes begin and final examinations. Although it is possible for two semester students to go during SDSU's academic year, it is better to stay with the Murdoch academic calendar.

Housing and Meals
Quality on Campus housing is available in Murdoch University's Student Village that include fully furnished flats with either single or shared rooms. An Off Campus Housing Officer is also available to help students find accommodation on the basis of full board, house sharing or flat rental. To check this out, visit the Accommodation website. 

Insurance Requirement
As a compulsory condition of a student visa, all international students must have approved Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), which provides medical and hospital coverage for international students while in Australia. You will receive more information about the OSHC in your Offer Letter.

All SDSU students will be automatically enrolled in the appropriate international health insurance for their study abroad term. The insurance charge will appear on your student account services billing shortly before departure. Students will receive more detailed instructions regarding insurance before departure.

Visa
U.S. citizens must acquire a student visa to study in Australia. Please refer to the Embassy of Australia website for more information about what is required to obtain that student visa. You will need the Certificate of Enrollment and Offer Letter in order to apply for the visa.

Location Summary
Bordered largely by desert to the east, Western Australia is bound by 12,500 kilometers (7,813 miles) of the world's most pristine coastline to the west. Western Australia is adored for its brilliant blue skies, warm sunny climate and white sandy beaches. It is a land blessed with some of the world's most precious natural phenomena including the dolphins of Monkey Mia, the 350-million-year-old Bungle Bungle range and the towering karri forests of the South West. Perth, the capital city of the State, is home to 1.38 million people and enjoys more hours of sunshine than any other capital city in Australia. Sophisticated yet uncomplicated, the lifestyle in Western Australia is a relaxed one.
Perth has an excellent public transport system. Buses run regularly between Perth and Murdoch University and, Fremantle and Murdoch University and can be caught from the
Murdoch University Campus Fremantle and Perth city center to many parts of Perth. The Circle Route bus passes Murdoch University and goes via many areas of Perth, it is very convenient for and, is widely used by Murdoch students. In addition, students who have classes at the Rockingham Campus and live in the Murdoch area are able to catch the regular shuttle buses between the Murdoch and Rockingham Campuses. Students will be provided with transport information at the Orientation Program. The University is located approximately 20 minutes by car (15 kilometers) from Perth's city center and 10 minutes by car (eight kilometers) from the port city of Fremantle. Should you wish to explore other Australian cities, Perth is less than four hours by plane from Sydney and Melbourne. As closest Australian city to South-East Asia, Perth is also a great starting point for exploring Australia's Asian neighbors. It is only a 3 hour flight to Bali and 5 - 7 hours flying time to major Asian destinations including Bangkok, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
