There are approximately 13,000 students studying at JCU on-campus with approximately 12% being international students. With friendly campuses, smaller class sizes, accessible teaching staff, and excellent support services including study skills and student mentor programs, JCU students receive the personal attention they need to achieve their best.

Language Notes
All classes are taught in English.

Program Dates
Semester 1 (SDSU Spring semester): February-JuneAustralian National Flag
Semester 2 (SDSU Fall semester): July-November

These are estimated dates that may include a required welcome orientation the week before classes begin and final examinations. Althought it is possible for two semester students to go during SDSU's academic year, it is better to stay with the JCU academic calendar.

Note: At James Cook University, SDSU considers upper division courses as 2000+ or Level 2.

Housing and Meals
JCU offers On-Campus Housing but it fills very quickly so you should submit a housing application as soon as you receive your offer letter. JCU's Accommodation Services also maintains a database of off-campus housing and can provide advice about renting privately.

Insurance Requirement
As a compulsory condition of a student visa, all international students must have approved Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), which provides medical and hospital coverage for international students while in Australia.
James Cook University Campus

All SDSU students will be automatically enrolled in the appropriate international health insurance for their study abroad term. The insurance charge will appear on your student account services billing shortly before departure. Students will receive more detailed instructions regarding insurance before departure.

U.S. citizens must acquire a student visa to study in Australia. Please refer to the Embassy of Australia website for more information about what is required to obtain that student visa. You will need the Certificate of Enrollment and Offer Letter in order to apply for the visa.
